The First Canadian Shrine of Saint Gianna
On Sunday, May 10th, the first Canadian Shrine in honour St. Gianna Beretta Molla was blessed and inaugurated in St. Gianna Beretta Molla Roman Catholic Church, by Archbishop Richard Gagnon, Archbishop of Winnipeg.
The event, celebrated in the context of evening prayer, included the unveiling of a bronze statue of St. Gianna by artist John Collier and we were blessed to have with us St. Gianna’s daughter, Gianna Emanuela in attendance.
Holy Father, Pope Francis, declared this year the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy, which was inaugurated in the Archdiocese of Winnipeg with a special celebration on December 8, 2015. His Grace, Archbishop Richard Gagnon, Archbishop of Winnipeg, has designated the Shrine of Saint Gianna Beretta Molla a Pilgrimage Site to be visited as an action of mercy throughout this Jubilee Year.
