January 24, 1953 – February 13, 2022
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Valleryn Katherina Helena Ritchot on February 13, 2022, at the age of 69. She passed away peacefully after a battle with lung cancer, with her son Christopher by her side. In the days before her passing, she expressed that she was ready to be with her saviour, Jesus Christ.
Valleryn was predeceased by her parents Helen and Jack Musgrove Sr., sister Cindy Patterson, and brother-in-law John Patterson. Valleryn will always be lovingly remembered by her husband of 41 years, Loree; children Helena, Lloyd, and Christopher (Alison); grandchild Summer; brothers Jack (Valerie) Musgrove and Sandy (Kim) Musgrove; and other family members and friends.
Valleryn was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Upon graduation from Saint Charles Catholic School, she attended the University of Manitoba where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Agriculture in 1976. With her degree, Valleryn moved to Kindersley, Saskatchewan to work in her field of study. She later moved back to Winnipeg and worked with her father at Stafford Foods. During a church function at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, Valleryn met her future husband. They married a few years later on April 12, 1980 and had three children, whom she loved with all her heart. In 1990, Valleryn began working at Woolco and later Walmart. She was a dedicated employee for 30 years and retired at the beginning of 2020. In 1992, Valleryn began her nursing studies at the University of Winnipeg, but ultimately chose not to continue in order to honour her commitments to work and family.
Valleryn’s faith was important to her and she was a lifelong member of St. Paul the Apostle Parish. She loved and served her family all her life and routinely visited extended family members. Valleryn made warmhearted, home-cooked meals for every special occasion including birthdays and holidays. Some of her favourite activities included going on family trips, swimming, reading, shopping, and watching movies. She also loved caring for her cats and volunteering at a local personal care home.
The family would like to thank the 5E Medicine staff at St. Boniface General Hospital, as well as Dr. Li for their compassion and care.
A celebration of life was held on Saturday, March 5, at 11:00am at St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Parish, 2400 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, with Rev. Eric Giddins presiding. Entombment followed at Living Waters Columbarium, St. Gianna Beretta Molla Church, Winnipeg.
