Interim Entombment
February 5, 1936 – April 1, 2024
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Marina Nieva Daleon on April 1, 2024 at St. Boniface Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband, Panfilo V. Daleon, Jr. Marina will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by Marites and Arnold, Millie and Con, Monic and Allan, Peter and Cielo. Her memory will be cherished by her grandchildren: Jiolo, Migo and Lizzie; Ina, Ana and Maia; Pauline and Gabe; Sef, Coby and Joshua.
Mom was born in February 5, 1936 in Lucena City from parents, Augusto Enriquez Nieva and Raquel Robles Nieva. Marina has eight other siblings namely, Carmelita, Arturo, Ruben, Ramon, Ma. Luisa, Teresita, Maristela and Guido.
Marina attended school at the Sacred Heart College and Luzonian University where she also finished a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with Accountancy as her major. She had an early career with the Quezon Provincial Auditing Office where she started in 1958 and eventually transferred to the Lucena City Auditor’s Office under the Commission on Audit, and stayed until retirement in 1993 after having served the government for 35 years.
In 1961, she married her husband of 54 years, Panfilo Jr., whom she met through common friends. Their friendship grew up to different levels and brought them before the altar in the sacrament of matrimony on July 22, 1961 at the Ermita Parish Church in Manila. Panfilo and Marina were blessed with three daughters and one son. Their family flourished to produce eleven grandchildren who were the source of their love and inspiration. Her husband passed away on September 11, 2015.
Upon her retirement in 1993, after having served the government for 35 long years, Marina served the church in various roles and capacities. Her religious involvement included membership with the Daughters of Mary Immaculate and later in life, became a member of the Dominican Third Order. She served and generously gave time to become a member and officer of the Parish Pastoral Council of the St. Ferdinand Cathedral in Lucena City. Born to be a community organizer, she also served the Parish Finance Council of the same church. As husband and wife, they became members of the Christian Family Movement and eventually, became Couples for Christ members.
Marina is a great cook and bakes excellently. She would quickly create sumptuous dishes during family gatherings and she will always be remembered by her cooking as it has always been a hit among guests. However, little is it known to everyone that the secret in her deliciously cooked meals is that it is always done with love in her heart. Family comes first to her all the time. She always makes sure that her family is nourished with love.
A memorial service in her honour and a Funeral Mass was held on April 15, 2024 with Fr. Joshua Gundrum officiating the Eucharistic celebration.
