ELIZA BIALA-FLISAK With great sadness we announce the passing on to her eternal life of our dear wife, mother, and babcia. We were all privileged to hold her hands in the last minutes of her life on Sunday, December 20, 2015. With a failing voice she recited her last Rosary prayer with us. Eliza leaves to mourn her passing her loving husband Stanislaw (Stan); sisters Danuta and Barbara (Wes); children Ewa (Ryan), Maciej (Ashley), and Bartlomiej (Kristin), and cherished grandchildren Connor, Lauren, Rai, Kotaru, Cole and Kate. She was predeceased by her parents Edward and Kazimiera. In 1946 Eliza was born in Poland and graduated from electrical engineering in 1969. The same year she married her university sweetheart Stanislaw, whom she met on the first day of classes. Eliza was the first woman in Poland to manage a large regional electrical power grid. As her family grew with the arrival of twin boys, she chose to leave behind a promising professional career to nurture her children full time. In 1980 Eliza departed with her husband and three young children for Nigeria. With the hope of a better life for her family, she arrived in their new home, Canada, in 1983. She loved travelling across North America to enjoy the continent’s natural wonders: its mountains, lakes, and forests. At home, Eliza nurtured a beautiful garden into which she welcomed a wide variety of birds each spring. She found her greatest joy in spending time with her children and grandchildren. Our family will celebrate Eliza’s life with a private service. We wish to extend special thanks to the St. Boniface Cancer Care unit and all the home and palliative care professionals that cared for Eliza over the years during her encounter with cancer. Thank you to Rev. Fr. Carl Tarnopolski, who anointed Eliza in her last hours and who will officiate over the funeral proceedings. Your kindness is much appreciated. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Eliza’s name to CancerCare Manitoba. 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
