August 14, 1954 – January 23, 2024
On January 23, 2024, Galdino passed away peacefully in the arms of his beloved wife Florien at the age of 69.
He was predeceased by his parents, Andres and Diana Fetalvero. He will be lovingly remembered for his wisdom, generosity, and dedication to his wife of 42 years, Florien and daughters, Valerie Vermette (Evan), Mignon North (Nick), and Charryse Souza (Cleber). His smile and humour will always be treasured by his grandchildren, Theo, Mia, Layla, Sadie, Spencer, Ariana and Tessa. Galdino was also an honorary “Papa Lolo” to many, as well as a second father to a number of their 21 international students.
Galdino was born on August 14, 1954, in Banton, Romblon, Philippines. He was the youngest of 9 children. He spent his early years at Banton High School (‘71), spear fishing and swimming in the ocean.
He attended the University of the East where he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He earned his designation as a CGA and began his career with SGV which brought him to many places as far as Saudi Arabia. He moved to Canada with his family in 1989 and successfully pursued his CPA designation. He spent 25 years with Manitoba Lotteries, retiring as the Corporate Controller in 2019. During retirement Galdino and Florien travelled the world to visit their former international students and took many memorable trips with their grandchildren.
Galdino was always distinguished in his outfits, with shoes that were always polished and clean. He took pride in wearing a crisp suit to work everyday, with his CPA pin in place. He always had music playing at home and he could be counted on to serenade with his ukulele on birthdays; he passed on this tradition to his grandchildren, Theo and Mia. He often recalled with delight the joy he brought playing his ukulele to his mother, her namesake song, “Diana”.
Dad, we will miss your loving advice, especially when the going gets tough. You were always someone to talk to when we needed to draw courage, accept life’s hard punches, and celebrate every single happy milestone; however big or small it may be. You will be dearly missed, and we have every reason to be your proud daughters, sons, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
