Ian Noel Jim Jose Gonzales
December 27, 1989 – June 17, 2022
“Gone too soon but forever in our hearts”
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected, yet peaceful passing of our beloved Ian, at the age of 32, on Friday, June 17, 2022 in Calgary, Alberta.
Ian was predeceased by his father Jose Jim; grandparents, Francisco Jose; and, Augurio and Rosario Gonzales. He will be greatly missed but fondly and lovingly remembered by his mother, Divina; sisters. Jodi and Francesca; grandmother, Delia and his numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
Ian was born and raised in the Philippines before moving to Canada in 2007. He studied in Ateneo de Manila and finished high school at Sisler. He also studied French at St. Boniface University and was an exchange student at City University of Hong Kong. He completed his Bachelor of Science double major degree in Computer Science and Psychology at the University of Manitoba. At the time of his passing, he was very close to completing his Master’s degree in Psychology (Quantitative Psychology Program) also at the University of Manitoba.
He passed away while attending the annual convention of the Canadian Psychological Association in Calgary, Alberta, where he was to present one of his research papers on Quantitative Research Methods. While completing his Master’s degree, he was working part-time assisting professors in some classes in the Department of Psychology and was also an IT resource person at Environment Canada and Climate Change. He used to work with IQmetrix as a Software Developer.
Not only was he intelligent and driven but he was also a talented artist and a kind, thoughtful and loving person. He was a sweet, caring son; a protective and dependable brother and a warm, affectionate grandson. He was also a generous person who was always ready to step up and help anyone needing assistance. He volunteered for Siloam Mission and other organizations. He was a quiet and sensitive person but could be funny and humorous too. He expressed himself through his paintings, sketches and various art works. He also had a collection of Legos and board games and loved his dog, Bolton, so much.
We, his family, would like to extend our sincere gratitude to those who have sent cards, flowers, offered prayers and masses, and all gestures of kindness and sympathy, as we mourn the sudden loss of our dearest Ian. Special thanks to Dr. Lisa Votta-Bleeker for reaching out to me and providing a copy of Ian’s CPA presentation with voice-over.
A celebration of Ian’s life was held on June 30, 2022 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home and Cemetery, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd, Winnipeg, Manitoba, with Holy Mass.
Funeral mass was held on July 2, 2022, at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, 748 Keewatin St., Winnipeg, Manitoba.
