Reunited with Betty on January 26, 2010 It is with great sadness we announce that we lost Grant at the much too young age of 75. A wonderful Father to daughter Shannon, (Guy) and son Dave, (Monika), caring Grandfather to Brad, Kristyn, Stephan and Hayden and loyal best friend to Betty’s sister Ethel. Dad enjoyed time with his family and friends, quietly observing the bantering back and forth of all the talkers in the group. The room would go quiet when he had something to say as it was always thoughtful and profound, or it may have been a simple yes dear to the query Isn’t that right Grant? These wonderful times were most memorable at the cottage on Big Whiteshell Lake. He met his wife of 50 years there in 1954 while building the cabin by hand with his Father. Construction continued, and still continues, with the entire family taking part so there would always be enough room for everyone. Betty called it Heaven on Earth , and to him, it was. The lake was where he shared family time sitting on the deck enjoying the morning sun with a good cup of coffee. He ate great meals with fine wines while discussing what was next on the to do list. There was always a project or some puttering to do, but these were never a chore. The lake was dad’s perfect setting to enjoy his love of wildlife and the beauty of nature as was the lodge at Tin Town in the Delta Marsh. He was looking forward to spending more time there again as renovating the shack was his next project. Happy times were had, first with his Dad, then with his family. Usually with a dog in tow, as it was a place for dogs and kids to run and explore, or perhaps just to sit quietly in the breeze enjoying the wide open sky. Dad, you had a heart and soul of gold, you will be remembered and missed. It is with a smile, a nod and a handshake that we say I Love You . A private service will be held. In keeping with Grant’s love of animals, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society – phone 982-2021. www.winnipeghumanesociety.ca LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements, 775-2220.
