March 22, 1928 – April 12, 2022
Surrounded by loving family, Norma passed away peacefully on the morning of April 12, 2022, at her care home in Winnipeg.
Beloved wife of John Gerald Mulcair (d. 2014). They were married on September 27, 1952 at Ascension of our Lord Catholic Church in Montreal. Beloved mother of Kevin Mulcair (Kathy), Frances Qadri (Samad), Patricia Rehak (Daniel), Deirdre, Rosalind Leslie (Don), David, Rebecca Skinner (Grant) and Margaret MacKenzie (Paul). Dearly loved grandmother of David, Maura, Erin, Andrew, Heather, Arthur, Philip, Tyler, Kathleen, Angela and Ian. Dearly loved great-grandmother of Zayin, Bennett, Maeve, Solomiya, Hanna, Elizabeth, Mason, Elliott, William and Charlotte. Fondly remembered by her sisters, Janice DeGrace (Charles) and Judy Helle (Steve), her much beloved nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends.
Norma was born March 22, 1928, daughter of Dr. Arthur Wilson and Norma Rose Young (née MacFarlane). She grew up on Forden Crescent in Montreal, attending Sacred Heart Convent and McGill University, where she met the love of her life at the Newman Centre. Norma’s love was expressed daily through acts of kindness to her dear husband and children and, later in life, to church-related organizations and, notably, to Shannon Lake Golf Course in Westbank, BC, where she and Gerry lived and contributed to the community for 28 very good years.
Norma’s manner of organization and oft-rehearsed antics were, at various times and places, legendary. Laughter at the things of life will remain part of her legacy to all who knew her. Norma’s sense of the Gospel was simple, her “poor in spirit” beatitude visible and her faith in her Lord Jesus regarding goods, temporal and eternal, immense, especially in her later years. We are grateful to God for her.
Sincere thanks to Luvie, Norma’s personal companion for six years. Thank you Luvie for sharing your heart and great expertise in caring for Mom daily. To the compassionate and dedicated staff at the Simkin Centre, especially all the health care aides, nurses, Corinna, Brenda, Ray, Tessie, and Dr. Koven from Weinberg 2. Thank you for never missing a beat. There are not words.
Friends and family were invited to visitation at St. Gianna Beretta Molla Church, 15 Columbia Drive, Winnipeg on Saturday, April 23 at 10:00 a.m. A funeral Mass was held at the same location at 11:00 a.m. A Rite of Committal was held on a later date in Living Waters Columbarium located within the church. In memoriam donations may be made to St. Gianna Beretta Molla Church’s Statue of Mary Memorial Fund. Blessed be God.
