April 30, 1954 – November 21, 2021
Peacefully on Sunday, November 21, 2021, on the feast of Christ the King, Rose Mendez Suban passed away at Health Science Centre at the age of 67.
Rose was predeceased by her parents Margarita and Primo, brother Romeo, sisters Amelia, Baby and Carmen.
Rose will be lovingly remembered by her husband Romeo; sons Rowell (Melanie), Dexter (Diana), Romeo Jr. (Jessica), and Allan (Kristina); sisters Maura, Melinda, Naty (Mikel) and Christine (Matthew); grandchildren Blaise, Kyrie, Augustin, Clara, Kameron, Ella, Adaline, and Elijah; nieces and nephews Isabelle, Raciel, Ronnie, and Rommel. Also missed by great nieces and nephews and many cousins in Canada, United States and the Philippines.
Rose was born in Makati, Philippines on April 30, 1954 and immigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in February 1992 with her family. Despite many unknown challenges and hardships, Rose and Romeo’s devotion and sacrifices laid the foundation for a humble yet blessed future for their children. She transitioned into the medical field by studying and successfully becoming a Unit Clerk at Health Science Centre for over 20 years. Rose took great pride in her work and made a lasting impact on so many staff members and patients.
Rose and Romeo met at their workplace, United Lab. Their love grew through their courtship and eventual 41 memorable years of marriage. They complemented each other’s strengths and supported one another unconditionally. Romeo loved seeing her cook and Rose appreciated his cleaning. She was often the model and he was the photographer. You can say their partnership was filled with a lot of passion. They once received the “Most Passionate Kiss” award at a party. Romeo is grateful for their journey of life and the legacy they built together.
Rose cherished her time with her sisters. They made every effort to spend quality time with each other, especially when their parents passed away. Rose brought happiness and fun to each gathering. She is the first to tell you, “Sister, you look beautiful” (and she will expect you to return the compliment of course) and conclude it with, “We must be sisters, because we’re both beautiful”. Rose will be your biggest cheerleader and your greatest encourager to “keep it up”. Rose will be the one to lift you up when you’re down and remind you that you’re strong and that with prayer, you can get through any trials. She will be missed greatly by her loving sisters.
Rose Suban was a faithful servant to the Church. She gave her time, talent, and treasures through a variety of services to the Church. Rose could be found reading scripture during Mass, singing in the Music Ministry, serving as Lector, Eucharistic Minister, and serving in her community of Missionary Families of Christ since June 1989. She shared the light of Christ with not only her children, but with friends, co-workers and even strangers! Rose truly echoed the words of Mary, the mother of Jesus, “Behold I am the servant of the Lord; let it be done to me according to thy word”. (Luke 1:38).
Mama Rose loved her family above all else. She worked tirelessly to help provide food and comfort for her children. She is often heard asking if they have eaten, or seen serving food to them (even after they just ate). Rose loved being a Lola to her eight wonderful grandchildren. She loved each one deeply and would give of herself endlessly to entertain, feed, or hold them. Her grandchildren loved their moments with their Lola.
Lamay was held on Friday, November 26, 2021 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Entombment followed at St. Gianna’s Living Waters Columbarium.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff of Health Sciences Centre, Seven Oaks Hospital, St. Boniface Hospital and countless specialists for their kindness and compassionate care.
Thank you, Rose, for all you’ve done for us and loving us unconditionally. We love you and you will forever be in our hearts. Rest now in paradise, with the Lord, our sweet guardian angel.
