December 21, 1954 – April 25, 2020
Daughty Tharayil passed suddenly and unexpectedly on April 25, 2020, with her husband by her side.
She was born in Kerala, India, the fifth daughter of nine children born to Baby and Pennamma Theccannattu. In 1977, she married Jacob (Chackochen) Tharayil, and immigrated to Winnipeg. She led a full life as a doting mother to Tara (m. Selby) and Amanda (m. Peter); grandmother to Andrew 8, Benjamin 7, Sybil 6 and Isaac 4; and aunty to her extended family and Malayali community. She spent 30 plus years working at St. Boniface Hospital as an E.K.G. Technician. She spent her free time perfecting her cooking skills and pursuing many hobbies. She was always ready to entertain any number of guests, with delicious and elegant food, without warning.
After retirement she continued to stay busy by travelling extensively, and visiting her grandchildren. She also volunteered her time with The Missionaries of Charities Manitoba, and continued to be an active member of Winnipeg’s growing Malayali community. She also took time daily to connect with her extended family and community.
Daughty had an effervescent personality. Even those who only met her once remember her fondly. She had endless amounts of energy and generosity that she shared indiscriminately; and she did it without judgment or expecting anything in return. Her ability to try new things, find laughter in all circumstances, and give to others is inspiring and astounding.
Let us honour her memory by living each day to its fullest, and by being kind to others. In that spirit, we ask that, in lieu of flowers, you consider making a contribution in her name to either: The Missionaries of Charity (Manitoba) Inc., or Little Servants of The Divine Providence, a home for differently-abled children and adults in Kunnamthanam, Kerala, India.
“The stars twinkle even brighter now that your light joins them in the heavens.”
A private funeral service is being held.
