The Shrine of Saint Gianna Beretta Molla
Dearly Beloved in Christ,
On Sunday, May 10th, we marked a historic event with the blessing and dedication of the first Canadian Shrine of our beloved patroness, Saint Gianna Beretta Molla. This inauguration makes present a wonderful gift for our parish community, the entire Archdiocese of Winnipeg and the whole of the Church in Canada.
This shrine of our patroness will be for many, a place of prayer and contemplation. It will be a place to reflect on the tangible experience of a wife, mother and young professional who endeavoured to faithfully follow God’s will in her life – a place to encounter the enduring and inspiring example of a life deeply rooted in Jesus Christ. Her story, witness and discipleship has shaped our parish community over the past ten years. My hope is that all who come to this shrine to seek St. Gianna’s example and intercession, will also come to discover our special communion with her and that of all the saints in heaven.
As custodians of this holy place, may our patroness St. Gianna continue to be for us a true source of witness for following Christ in our daily tasks, activities, decisions and choices. With the example of St. Gianna Beretta Molla, may Christ uphold us on our journey to becoming God’s saints!
Holy Father, Pope Francis, declared this year the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy, which was inaugurated in the Archdiocese of Winnipeg with a special celebration on December 8, 2015. His Grace, Archbishop Richard Gagnon, Archbishop of Winnipeg, has designated the Shrine of Saint Gianna Beretta Molla a Pilgrimage Site to be visited as an action of mercy throughout this Jubilee Year. St. Gianna Beretta Molla, pray for us!
